We touch so many things on a regular basis that we forget to clean the major items we touch the most. Sure we vacuum, mop and dust, but disinfecting the most touched items is a must for flu control in our homes. Just think about it… When you left home this morning the last thing you touched was the doorknob and the first thing you will touch when you arrive back home will be that same doorknob. Now think back to when was the last time you disinfected that doorknob? If you are not using Penny’s Personal touch cleaning services I would have to guess close to never. Remote controls, light switches, door knobs, toilet levers, refrigerator handles are amongst the most touched items in our homes. Germs are spread on these items the quickest because they are the most touched items in your home that get overlooked. With flu and cold season upon us it is time to kick it up a notch in the disinfecting phase of your day to day cleaning. It will take you less than 5 minutes to properly disinfect the most overlooked places germs spread in your home. Fill a bottle with the following solution for the disinfecting process. Half filled with white distilled vinegar and half filled with water. Add 30 drops of tea tree oil and get to spraying! Spray down door knobs, light switches, toilet handles and wipe down remotes. No need to wipe off the cleaner except for on the remote. Those ingredients combined will kill the common cold and flu germs in your home.Serving Austin, Pflugerville, Round Rock and Cedar Park with Eco friendly maid services since 1996
I cannot stress how much bleach is harmful to our environment and our health! However most of us have been taught that Bleach kills every bacteria and mold out there. Bleach does not kill mold! If this were the case why are you constantly having to spray it in the same areas in the shower? Bleach can’t kill mold growing on porous surfaces and materials. It can however cover it up, but it never gets to the root of the mold. It is a harsh and corrosive material and after repetitive sprays it will begin to eat away at the grout and caulking in your bathroom. Bleach gives off harmful fumes and if mixed with other components it can become extremely harmful to your health. Bleach was used in World War 2 as a chemical weapon so why are we still using it today? Lack of education I would say. I have found the best alternative to Bleach in mold and disinfecting situations are two items in two separate bottles. White distilled vinegar and Hydrogen Peroxide kill mold to the root and are not harmful to the air you breathe. Vinegar is a mild acid and can kill over 80% of mold species. Spray it undiluted on the areas affected by mold. Then get your bottle of store bought 3% concentration of Hydrogen peroxide and put a spray cap on the bottle. It must remain in the dark bottle to work. Hydrogen peroxide is anti-fungal and anti-viral. Its chemical makeup is basically water with an extra oxygen molecule. It is not harmful on your surfaces or the environment. Spray the same area that you sprayed the vinegar and these two products will kill the mold. Never put the vinegar and hydrogen peroxide in the same bottle as it together causes a totally different makeup of solutions. I recommend keeping a bottle of undiluted white distilled vinegar in a spray bottle, and a bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide in place of your bleach bottles. You will not only kill mold to the root without harming the atmosphere and your health but these two solutions together will disinfect. The purchase of a sofa is an investment in your comfort. However over time you can tell where your favorite seat on the couch is, or where your dog or cat love to sit when you are not looking. Here are a few tips to protect your investment of comfort. Most sofa’s have cushions that can be flipped. I recommend flipping the cushions both on the bottom seating area and the back resting area weekly. This step keeps the sofa looking fresh and distributes the wear evenly on the cushions. I am sure when you flipped the cushions you found some crumbs and debris under there, so my next recommendation is to vacuum under the cushions every time you vacuum your carpet. (Which should be at least once a week) If you feel you will forget this step feel free to give the chore to one of the kiddos in the house. They should be thrilled to find lost change and who knows what else under those cushions. It will end up being a weekly scavenger hunt in the sofa!
Vacuuming the entire couch with a vacuum attachment will remove dust and dirt from the sofa that you cannot see. If dust is building up everywhere else in the house you can be sure that it is collecting on the couch as well.If you are a smoker try to refrain from smoking on your couch. The sofa tends to absorb odors as it is a soft surface in your home. Over time you will become used to the odor that your sofa has held, however your guest will notice it the moment they sit down. The vacuuming frequently can help remove these soft odors. If you feel overwhelmed in the upkeep of your sofa try buying a slip cover to throw over the couch to protect it from stains and odors. You can always just toss the slip cover in the washing machine and dry it for a new looking couch!Serving Austin, Round Rock, and Pflugerville with Eco Friendly maid services since 1996
Last year I sponsored a home on the Modern Homes tour in Austin. One statement that most of the guests that viewed the homes kept repeating was how clean each home was. That statement couldn’t have been further from the truth. With all the traffic the homes were getting that day, no matter how Modern they were, the dirt kept piling up. However at first glance, the homes look extremely clean because of the Modern style. The modern style does not have to be expensive, but one major rule in modern style is absolutely no clutter. Another rule in Modern style in your home is to pick large and bold furniture pieces. Too many pieces of furniture in a room can cause a clutter effect. Sometimes you don’t even have to go out and buy new furniture. Take a moment and analyze your living room. How many pieces of furniture occupy the room? How many baskets or stacks of clutter do you have? The more clutter a space has the harder it is to maintain a clean atmosphere. Keep it simple, and not only will it be easier to clean, but it will have the clean modern look all the time. Austin, Round Rock & Pflugerville Eco friendly maid services
